What do you pack for a women’s yoga retreat in Oregon? Pack comfortable yoga clothes, layers for cool mornings and evenings, walking shoes, a journal, a reusable water bottle, and simple toiletries. Keep it minimal and focus on comfort, versatility, and ease rather than bringing too many options.

If you’re wondering what to pack, I get it —after hosting retreats for over a decade, this is one of the most common questions I get.

So let me simplify it for you. You don’t need to pack perfectly. You just need to pack in a way that lets you relax into the experience instead of managing it.

Quick Packing List for a Women’s Retreat in Oregon

If you want the simple version, start here:

2–3 yoga outfits

Warm layer (hoodie or jacket)

Casual daytime clothes

Cozy evening outfit

Swimsuit

Walking or hiking shoes

Sandals

Journal and pen

Reusable water bottle

Sunscreen, moisturizer, and toiletries

That’s it. You can absolutely bring more—but you likely won’t use it.

Want this as a printable checklist? Grab the free Yoga Retreat Packing List PDF se send to our guests → drop your email and I’ll send the detailed version you can check off as you pack.

Oregon Summer Weather (What Most People Don’t Expect)

Oregon in July is beautiful—but it’s not just “summer weather.”

You’ll get:

Warm, sunny afternoons

Cool mornings (sometimes surprisingly crisp)

Evenings where you’ll want that extra layer

And if you’re in the forest (which you will be), it cools down even more.

That’s exactly why layers matter more than outfit options.

Insider tip: Check the weather beforehand. We’ve never had rain during our July retreat, but we have had some very cool mornings, so I always recommend cozy socks, a warm hat, and a fleece or puffy jacket. It might seem a bit “extra” — but trust me, these are the items women are always happiest they brought.

What to Wear to a Wellness or Yoga Retreat

This is where people tend to overthink things. So I’ll be honest with you: wear what you already feel good in. Not what looks good online. Not what you think a retreat “should” look like.

Pack:

2–3 yoga outfits you can mix and match (you’ll rotate these)

Loose, breathable daytime clothes

A warm layer (you’ll wear this more than you think)

Cozy clothes for evenings

Swimsuit (for river dips, hot tubs, or just relaxing)

After day one, everyone defaults to comfort anyway.

What Shoes Should You Bring to an Oregon Retreat?

You don’t need multiple pairs — but you do want to be practical. Bring easy on/off shoes (sandals, Birks, or slip-ons) and a pair of walking or light hiking shoes for trails and nature walks. You’ll be slipping your shoes on and off all day, so something easy makes a real difference.

Yoga Retreat Essentials (From Years of Hosting Women’s Retreats in Oregon)

Over the years, I’ve seen exactly what women use—and what stays untouched in their bags.

What you’ll actually use:

Yoga mat (if not provided)

Journal + pen (this becomes more important than you expect)

Reusable water bottle

Sunscreen + hat

Simple toiletries

Earplugs (if you’re sleeping in a shared space)

Nice to have:

A book

A small bag for day outings

A skincare mask

What NOT to Pack (This Matters More)

This makes a bigger difference than you think. I encourage you to leave behind:

“Just in case” outfits

Full makeup and hair routines

Tight or uncomfortable clothing

Work or anything that pulls you back into your usual pace

And most importantly: anything that makes you feel like you need to show up a certain way. Because that’s not what this space is about.

How to Avoid Overpacking (One Simple Rule)

If you take one tip from this, let it be this:

👉 Pack for 3 days—even if you’re staying a little longer.

Every single retreat, without fail, someone says, “I brought way too much.”And by day two, they’re wearing the same favorite outfit on repeat.

Expert advice: Pack what makes you feel good and leave the rest. If you’re on retreat and discover that you need something, 9 out of 10 times, either we have extras or another guest has extras you can borrow.

If This Is Your First Retreat

There’s usually a moment before arriving where you wonder:

Will I fit in?

Did I pack the right things?

Am I prepared for this?

Totally normal.

But here’s what actually happens: within 24 hours of arriving, you realize that none of that matters — because everyone else is arriving with the same energy—wanting to feel comfortable, connected, and able to just be.

New to all of this? Here’s what to expect at your first yoga retreat and an honest look at whether a women’s retreat is worth it.

→ Explore the Oregon Summer Retreats

Packing Less Actually Changes Your Experience

This isn’t just about saving space in your suitcase.

When you pack simply:

You stop overthinking your appearance

You feel more at ease in your body

You drop into the experience faster

And that’s where the real shift begins.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s on a yoga retreat packing list?

A simple yoga retreat packing list includes 2–3 yoga outfits, a warm layer, casual daytime and cozy evening clothes, a swimsuit, walking shoes, sandals, a journal, a reusable water bottle, sunscreen, and basic toiletries. Keep it minimal and comfortable.

What should I pack for a women’s retreat in Oregon?

Pack yoga clothes, layers for cool mornings and evenings, walking shoes, a journal, a water bottle, and simple toiletries. Oregon summer days are warm but mornings and forest evenings get cool, so layers matter more than extra outfits.

What do you wear to a yoga retreat?

Wear breathable, flexible, comfortable clothing you already feel good in. Most retreats are casual and focused on ease, not appearance — by day one, everyone defaults to comfort.

Do I need hiking gear for an Oregon retreat?

No. Light walking or hiking shoes are enough for most retreat activities. Check your itinerary and your host’s packing list before you bring anything heavier.

Do I need to bring my own yoga mat?

It depends on the retreat — many provide mats, so check first. If yours doesn’t, bring a mat you love, or a travel mat if you’re flying.

How many outfits should I bring to a retreat?

Bring 2–3 versatile outfits and plan to re-wear them. A good rule is to pack for 3 days even if you’re staying longer.

What should I NOT pack for a retreat?

Leave behind “just in case” outfits, full makeup and hair routines, tight or uncomfortable clothing, and work. Anything that makes you feel you have to show up a certain way can stay home.

How do I avoid overpacking for a retreat?

Pack fewer items, choose versatile clothing you can mix and match, and skip the “just in case” pieces. Pack for 3 days — you’ll re-wear your favorites anyway.

The Real Preparation

Packing is the easy part. The deeper preparation is this: letting yourself arrive without needing to have it all figured out.

Because what you’ll realiz, pretty quickly, is that you didn’t need more things.

You needed more space.

Grab the free Yoga Retreat Packing List PDF so packing takes ten minutes — and explore the Oregon Summer Retreats when you’re ready for the rest.

🏔️ January Weather in Patagonia: What to Expect

January in Northern Patagonia falls right in the middle of summer — expect sun-filled days, cooler nights, and rapidly changing mountain weather. Patagonia is famous for its microclimates, so you’ll want to dress in layers you can easily add or remove.

Our retreat is hosted at Tawa Refugio, a remote and luxurious lodge that blends wild nature with cozy, eco-conscious accommodations. You’ll be immersed in the elements, and your wardrobe should match the mood: intentional, relaxed, and ready for movement and magic.

👕 Clothing Must-Haves for a Yoga & Adventure Retreat in Chile

🧘 Yoga & Self-Care Tools

Your personal yoga mat (I love my Manduka mat for retreats because it’s closed cell, which means it’s easy to wipe clean after an outdoor practice).

Reusable water bottle

Journal + pen – we’ll be diving into self-reflection

Eye mask or savasana pillow

Small backpack or sling bag for day adventures

🌄 Activity-Based Packing: Your Retreat Might Include More Than Yoga

Every yoga retreat is unique — and in Patagonia, the landscape invites a mix of movement, stillness, and adventure. Our retreat includes hiking, kayaking, and horseback riding. Here’s how to prepare:

🥾 Hiking Essentials

Moisture-wicking base layers and hiking leggings (I really like my Smartwool base layers — they hold up well and don’t get stinky like synthetics).

Light, waterproof trail shoes or boots

Wool or hiking socks

Layered tops + fleece or vest

Sun hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen

Daypack + hydration gear (I love this Osprey pack for comfort and size)

🐎 Horseback Riding Gear

Stretchy pants or riding-friendly leggings

Closed-toe shoes or boots with a flat sole

Bandana or neck gaiter (for dust)

Comfortable sports bra

🛶 What to Wear for Kayaking

Swimsuit + fast-drying activewear

Water shoes or old sneakers

Windbreaker or lightweight shell

Quick-dry towel

Dry bag or ziplock for valuables

💡 Don’t Leave These Behind

Here’s what guests consistently forget — and wish they hadn’t:

✔️ International travel adapter – Chile uses Type C or L, 220V

✔️ Headlamp or flashlight – perfect for nighttime strolls

✔️ Quick-dry towel

✔️ Your passport AND copies of your passport and travel insurance

✔️ Dry bags or waterproof pouches

✔️ Snacks or comfort foods if you have dietary preferences

✔️ Chilean pesos in small denominations for local tips

✔️ A small personal ritual object or altar item (optional but meaningful)

⛔ What Not to Pack

High heels, bulky purses, or anything you wouldn’t wear on a trail

Hair dryers or curling irons — power systems may not support them

Extra electronics — you’re here to disconnect

Expensive jewelry or valuables — keep it minimal

Unrealistic expectations — come open, not perfect

✨ Final Reminder: Your Presence is What Matters

Packing for a yoga retreat isn’t just about clothing and gear. It’s about preparing your heart and mind for something deeper.

Leave room in your suitcase — and your spirit — for awe, rest, laughter, and transformation. Patagonia has a way of giving you exactly what you need.

Whether you’re hiking under glacial skies, journaling by the river, or flowing through morning yoga, this retreat is your space to exhale and come home to yourself.

I bet you’re excited to start prepping for your upcoming yoga retreat. Here I have created a yoga retreat packing list based on the yoga retreat I am leading in the mountains of Nicaragua in April 2019.

The view from the yoga shala during our February Yoga Retreat in Nicaragua.

Before you start packing for your yoga retreat make sure to consider the following:

What time of year is the yoga retreat? Is it the dry season or the rainy season? Winter or summer?

Where is my yoga retreat located? In the mountains? In the jungle? By the ocean?

What extra activities are in the itinerary? Wine tasting? Snorkeling? Surfing? Hiking? Canoeing?

Do I need to travel light or can I pack whatever I’d like?

How many yoga practices will we do per day?

Is laundry service available?

Is it easy to buy essentials/extras that I forgot at home?

Is the yoga retreat luxury, budget, adventure, etc?

What is the climate like? Tropical, temperate, rain forest, desert, etc.

Are mats, blocks, straps provided?

Here is an example Nicaragua Yoga Retreat Packing List for our Yoga in the Clouds: Yoga Retreat in Nicaragua.

To answer the previous questions.

The Nicaragua yoga retreat is in the highlands of Nicaragua in the cloud forest. February is the dry season in Nicaragua, but since the retreat takes place in the mountains it is a bit cooler and there could be a chance of rain. Extra activities include hiking, birding, visiting a local school and a women’s collective. Attendees are encouraged to bring what they need for two practices per day and clothing for additional activities and lounging. Laundry service isn’t available and it isn’t “easy” to purchase things left at home since the eco-lodge is located in a remote section of the Nicaraguan highlands. The retreat is casual. No makeup or hairdryers necessary. Climate is tropical and lush with moderate humidity.

You’ve booked your trip to Bali for your very first yoga retreat… now what? Well it’s time to start thinking about packing your bags for your trip. If you’re like me you like lists, so I’ve created this Bali Yoga Retreat Packing List. I hate forgetting things at home and lists help keep me sane. This list is a basic list for your Bali yoga retreat. I’m sure there will be things you will want to add.

What do you put on that Bali yoga retreat packing list? What do you pack for a yoga retreat anyway? Well that depends on the activities you’ll be participating in…. what other activities does your yoga holiday include? Hiking? Swimming? Surfing? Meditation? Visiting temples? You get the picture. Figure out what your additional activities are and that will help you with your packing. I’ve created a general yoga retreat packing list for the yogis attending my weeklong yoga retreat in Bali this November and I thought I would share it here with all of my readers.

Happy Tuesday yogis and yoginis. I’ve just made it home from an incredible trip to Nicaragua where I had the opportunity to host my second annual yoga and surf retreat at Costa Dulce and explored Finca Esperanza Verde in the high country above Matagalpa. I feel truly blessed.

I’m constantly traveling and I thought that it’s about time I share my must have carry on items. These are the items that are always in my carry on bag.

My phone. I load my phone up with music, guided meditations and podcasts. I also transfer off old photos and videos to clear space for new memories. My phone also has Duolingo (a language app) and XE (a conversion app).

Journal and pen. I love writing lists and flying is the perfect time to write lists, to-do lists, goals, business plans, brainstorm ideas, etc. Your journal and pen can also help you de-stress (get those thoughts out of your head on paper) and connect with your seat-mate (tic-tac-toe, hangman, etc.). Also, nice to collect other people’s contact info, etc (make sure to write a note or two about them, so you’ll remember them later).

Toiletry kit. I occasionally overdue the toiletry kit ie. I stuff as much possible into that little bag. Here is my loot: Alaffia Purely Coconut Fair Trade Lip Balm or ALL Good Lips Coconut Lip Balm with SPF 20, Weleda Calendula Baby Face Cream, ALBA Pineapple Enzyme Face Wipes, Crystal travel size deodorant, toothbrush and paste, and doTerra OnGuard or Wyndmere Immune Support Essential Oil.

Tea and Emergen-C. When traveling we’re not sleeping well and we’re continually being bombarded by germs. I pack a couple of packs of Emergen-C and a couple of different teas (Peppermint for digestion, Lavender Honey for relaxation, and Green Tea for an energy boost)

Comfort Kit. My manduka travel yoga mat (awesome for long layovers and in-seat lumbar support), inflatable neck pillow, eye cover, ear plugs and ear buds.

I know I said 5, but I also ALWAYS pack a destination appropriate change of clothes. Fresh clothes and a few minutes in the bathroom freshening up can make a world of difference… trust me.

What are your favorite carry-on items?

Safe travels yogis!

Love and Light,

I packed thinking I would want to have enough clean clothes to last me until our first day off, which was about 10 days in. My husband and I were in Bali for nearly 7 weeks and did laundry about once per week. I didn’t always change my clothes after morning practice, but I would recommend packing enough that you have the option to change into clean clothes after a sweaty practice. The Yoga Barn has showers that you can use as well.

I had a hard time finding a good packing list when I was preparing for my trip to Bali, so I hope you find my YTT packing list helpful.
